What People's Say About Place

My husband and I LOVE this place! After we for civily married we came here, its that good! The food is to die for it. We've brought around 6 people here and everyone has loved it. The food is so good. All of the tacos a great, thry are super filling. My husband is a big man who eats a lot, he is full after 3 to 4! They put a lot in the tacos. The yuca fries are also super good! The waiters are always super friendly with great service, the vibe is great. The line should be out the door honestly.

Undoubtedly one of the BEST Mexican places in all of Minnesota. And they have incredible tortillas - corn & flour - used for items like the Quesadilla & Alambre Burrito. Nobody has tortillas that are this unique and delicious in the Twin Cities - nobody. And it's just a neighborhood spot so you always feel welcome. Restaurant is clean and the staff are great. Check it out - you'll love it.

This is a really cool spot! I came here for the 1st time due to craving Mexican food. I ordered the ceviche as well as the quesadilla. My partner ordered the burrito. The serves was very friendly and efficient for being the only server. It took a little bit of time for the food to arrive as it appears the server was the only person working. (we arrived on a Friday evening so it was sort of busy, not hectic but definitely required more than one server to be efficient). When the food arrived it was very good. The ceviche was amazing as well as the quesadilla. My partner loved his burrito as well. The atmosphere is super cute and there’s tons of seating throughout. I would probably return as I had a pleasant experience. I think one important thing to note is the service is very slow.

Lovely place to get excellent tacos. Great service but unfortunately this location is quite far from where I live. I would still recommend making the drive out to this location.

A terrific modestly priced Mexican restaurant. Sonora is in a safe Longfellow neighborhood of S. Minneapolis. The large menu takes full advantage of Mexican cuisine's ability to create endless combinations from a few flat breads, a handful of vegetables and a few meats. Somehow I have never had elote before. This is a grilled cob of corn with garlic, cilantro, chile powder, mayo, cheese, garlic, and I think some lime. Fantastic. A tequila old fashioned also disappeared. (Most tables were drinking beer.) My dining partner had an excellent marguerita. Salads, chips, guac, and enchilada rounded out the meal. One comment. The Sonora serves very mild seasoning. NOT hot, spicy, picante. This fits the taste of many in MN but if you want something closer to a Mexican experience, ask for spicy or picante. (Chile or pepper or salsa are foods not the heat taste.) Although authentic Mexican spiciness is furiously debated in Mexico, in MN, this is a matter of personal preference.

A true hidden gem on E. Lake Street. Amazing options for all voluntary dietary restrictions. The eggplant fries were tempura fried in a flavorful batter and served alongside the most delicious cilantro aoli known to man. A true standout! Their main dishes are all beautifully presented and made with fresh ingredients. El Fantasma was the perfect drink - made with mezcal, its smoky flavor pairs well with everything on the menu.

We have driven by for several years, and came down to Lake Street to support local restaurants. The food was AMAZING. Everything was so flavorful, we shared orders and each one was soooo good. We had planned to take part of the meal home, but that didn't happen. The owner is friendly and we appreciated the details of presentation. Definitely coming back and highly recommend.

Excellent variety of for reasonable prices. The chicken rojo was my favorite. The sauce the tender chicken it was a well balanced bite. The brisket was my second favorite packed with juicy beef and the house made sauce gave it a nice kick. The drinks were well balanced and delightful. I came back since my first experience and everything was as good as the first time..
